Evening Grooves!

There are evenings when I walk in the door from work and can't help but smile or laugh, regardless of what may have transpired during the course of the day. Sometimes it's Paxton yelling "daddy" or Owen begging to play "wrestlemaniac," but this past Tuesday stole the show. Video evidence does it far more justice than I may be able to do with words.

It's good to be a dad...especially for these two little goofballs.

Cupcake Zoo!

Owen picked up a book at the library that he has been carrying around showing us all week. "Hey mom, can we make these?" "Hey dad, let's do this now please!"

What was he hoping to make? Cupcake Critters.
With Brecken's support and creative direction, Owen set out to recreate all of the cupcake critters. For the amount of licorice and number of starbursts that were consumed during the course of this project, we're pretty sure that Owen may have conned all of us.
In the end, Owen did a great job and was pretty proud of his creations. In fact, he was so proud of the creations that when we all sat down to enjoy a cupcake, Owen couldn't bring himself to eat the pink pig that he picked out. He licked around the edges and managed to eat the starburst ears, but he otherwise left it on his plate and carried it around the kitchen talking to it. Three hours later at dinner he ate the entire thing and didn't think twice, but out of the gate he was having a hard time.

Spring Tease?

We all know that the first week in March is still 4 or 5 months shy of the start of spring in Chicago, but you wouldn't have known it from the sunshine, 40 degree temps, and blue skies this weekend. Paxton was pretty excited when we asked her if she wanted to go outside to play. She put on my shoes and was ready to go.

Melting snow provided room for a our first home run derby of the year in the backyard. Owen hit his first "over the garage" shot. That forced us to turn and hit in a different direction...for fear of losing a window or two on the garage. Of course, while rounding the bases he stopped for a photo on the mound of snow between 1st and 2nd.
Meanwhile, Paxton was determined to find something to water with her watering can. The first flowers did break through this weekend in the front yard (not shown here).
Let the temperatures keep going up...please!

Living on the edge

Well, I'm not sure if you ever want to go to the ER, but if the first visit for a little boy comes 4+ years into his life's adventure, maybe it's not so bad.

Owen took a spill last night...correction...Owen says, "This was a big spill dad." Sliding on the hardwood floors and meeting the edge of the refrigerator are not a good combination.

A few hours, an episode or two of Phineas and Ferb in the ER, a small Strawberry-Kiwi slushy, and several strokes of dermabond later, and the little guy was ready to go. Thankfully, the cut was not terribly deep.

Oh...the fun of parenting.
