To Crib or Not to Crib

With the arrival of the Little Lady only a few weeks away, Brecken and I have been debating what to do about cribs and beds for Owen and his sister. Owen continues to sleep in a crib and has shown no signs of trying to get out. As a result, we like the idea of him staying in the crib, but the idea of getting two cribs seems a little bit silly. Having the baby in a bassinet for a period of time buys us some extra time to make a decision.

In the interim, we've done a little experimentation. On a few occasions, I have put Owen down for naps in a "big boy bed." The bed is really just a twin mattress setup on his floor with sheets and his blankets. The initial naps were relatively successful. Last night, having napped on the big boy bed in the afternoon, Owen requested that he sleep on the new bed. We allowed him to do this, believing we would simply transfer him back to his crib later in the evening.

After thirty minutes of sleeping, I began to hear footsteps upstairs. Minutes later, Owen had come downstairs and was running down the hallway saying "Mommy, Daddy, Mommy, Daddy." When we said hello, Owen responded by saying, "Mmmm hmmm Good Nap." Smart alec kid. Here is a quick picture of Owen, Brecken, and the Little Lady at this humorous moment. Looks like Owen will be staying in the crib for the foreseeable future. A quick goodnight to his sister and Owen was back in his bed sleeping.
