Early Easter Adventure

While Owen eagerly anticipates the arrival of Grandma, Papa, and Bekah for the holiday weekend, he took time out of this past weekend to familiarize himself with decorated eggs and to hone his egg hunting skills.
Owen and Brecken spent Sunday morning transforming ordinary eggs into eggstraordinary artwork. Here are a few shots of the artists taking time out for the camera.
To cap off the day, Brecken, Owen and I joined Sarah, John, and cute little Avery for the 2nd annual Lakeview Eggstravaganza on Southport.
Kids ranging from newborn to probably 6 or 7 were gathered outside of a little park just waiting for the gates to open. Here is a quick look at the location and all of the bounty prior to the attack.

Before I get to pictures of Owen, it is worth noting some of the gamesmanship involved in this event. We arrived 15-20 minutes prior to them opening the gates, and on more than one occasion, I saw or heard parents talking strategy with their kids. "So, you'll hold the basket with this hand and reach with this hand. Do you understand?." "You should look for the biggest eggs, as they have special prizes." When we decided that Brecken would be the one to accompany Owen into the park, she was less than thrilled when I began suggesting the use of tripping and hip-checking. Here we are during some of the pre-event planning and waiting.

I must admit that I was very impressed by Brecken's ability to get to the front of the line and to get Owen to hold on to his basket. When the gates opened, Owen took to the park with a lot of gusto.
He and Brecken maneuvered through the crowd (look very closely at the center of the picture).
Ultimately, he ran right past all of the eggs and tried to get to the playground equipment as quickly as possible.Brecken did manage to pick up 4 eggs along the way, and now that we're home, Owen thinks playing "Easter Egg Hunt" is a lot of fun. A good time for the whole family...and definitely entertaining.

Cheers!
